ChiPass is a modern, cross-platform, open-source password manager for people with extremely high demands on secure personal data management. Built as a KeePassXC descendant, it stores usernames, passwords, URLs, attachments and notes in an offline, encrypted KDBX database that you control entirely — nothing is ever uploaded to the cloud. It debuted with version 2026.09.0 on 11 September 2026, shipping installer packages for Linux, macOS and Windows from day one.
Key Features
KDBX format — Create, open and save KeePass-compatible databases (KDBX4 and KDBX3), keeping your vault portable across password managers.
Offline-first encryption — Data lives in a single encrypted file you can store anywhere, including private and public cloud; it is never accessible without your master key.
Auto-Type — Automatically type passwords into applications, reducing exposure to keyloggers and shoulder-surfers.
Browser integration — Native support for Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Chromium, Vivaldi, Brave and Tor-Browser, including passkey support.
Strong password generator — A customisable generator for random character combinations or easy-to-remember passphrases.
TOTP storage and generation — Store time-based one-time codes next to your entries for two-factor accounts.
Advanced import — Import from CSV, 1Password, Bitwarden, Proton Pass and KeePass1 formats.
Hardware key support — YubiKey/OnlyKey challenge-response, plus SSH Agent and FreeDesktop.org Secret Service integration.
Database reports — Password health, HIBP breach checks and statistics to surface weak or reused credentials.
Why Use ChiPass?
ChiPass targets users who will not compromise on how their credentials are stored. Because everything is held in a standards-based KDBX file under your control, there is no vendor lock-in and no sync server to trust. The familiar KeePassXC lineage means a mature feature set — from browser autofill to hardware-key challenge-response — wrapped in a project aiming for verifiably reproducible builds and active multiplatform support.
Use Cases
Managing a personal vault of credentials and notes that never leaves your devices.
Syncing an encrypted database between machines via your own cloud storage (Dropbox, Nextcloud, etc.).
Teams that want a shared, KeePass-compatible vault (KeeShare) without a central authority.
Power users needing SSH agent integration, CLI access, or hardware-key-backed entry unlocking.
