TripleA
Overview
TripleA is a free, open-source turn-based strategy game and board-game engine in the mould of Axis & Allies or Risk. Rather than shipping one fixed game, it provides a map-and-rules engine plus a large library of community scenarios — from the World War II classic Big World to First World War, Napoleonic and fantasy maps — so you always have a new campaign to learn.
Key Features
- Board-game engine — production, movement, combat and technology rules modelled on Axis & Allies style play.
- Large map library — hundreds of free downloadable maps and scenarios, each with its own rules and units.
- AI opponents — a built-in computer player (with adjustable difficulty) for solo games.
- Online multiplayer — free networked play through the built-in lobby, including save-game hosting and spectators.
- Verified dice server — optional remote server for provably fair dice rolls in competitive games.
- Fully moddable — maps, units and rules are plain XML files, so anyone can build a new game.
- Cross-platform — same saves and maps across Windows, macOS and Linux.
- Still maintained — regular releases from an active development team (latest 2026-10.16.15815).
Why Use It
It is the best free replacement for the boxed Axis & Allies experience: no price tag, no DRM and no storefront, with an open codebase and thousands of hours of community-made scenarios. A single install covers solo play, hot-seat, LAN and online matches.
Use Cases
- Solo campaigns against the AI on historical or fantasy maps.
- Hot-seat or LAN games with friends around one machine.
- Online multiplayer through the public lobby.
- Modders and map-makers building custom scenarios on the XML engine.
Platforms
Windows, macOS and Linux.
Licence
