GPL-3.0🖥️ Self-hostable
Boxarr
Boxarr is a self-hosted companion for Radarr that tracks the weekly cinema box office and offers you the films people are actually talking about. It fetches the Box Office Mojo weekend chart, presents each week as a ranked page with posters and grosses, and — if you want — adds the titles that pass your rules straight into your Radarr library. The selection comes from real revenue data rather than requests or a curator’s list; the current release is v2.1.0.
Key Features
- Weekly box office charts — Fetches the weekend chart from Box Office Mojo every week (1–30 titles, 10 by default) and stores each one as its own page, so you build a browsable history of what was actually popular.
- Radarr integration — Matches charting films against your Radarr library by title and IMDb id, shows whether each one is downloaded, missing, or not in Radarr at all, and adds the ones you pick with your chosen root folder and default quality profile.
- Optional auto-add — Switch automation on and Boxarr adds the top charting movies by itself, capped by a maximum-movies-per-run setting so one busy week cannot flood the library.
- Filters before anything is added — Genre filter, release-year and rating limits, a language whitelist or blacklist drawn from Radarr’s own language vocabulary (~57 languages, fetched live), and a minimum weekend-gross threshold.
- Genre-based root folders — Send films to different Radarr root folders by genre, so animation, horror and everything else land where you want them.
- Weekly scheduling — Enable automatic updates and choose the day and hour; Boxarr then works quietly in the background, with no user accounts or requests needed.
- Regional charts — Follow the Box Office Mojo weekend chart for your country instead of US & Canada domestic, with 60+ regions available (grosses are reported in US dollars for every region).
- Per-movie control — Ignore a film so future runs skip it (and un-ignore it later), add it manually from the chart, or one-click upgrade it to a higher quality profile.
- Movie overview — A library-wide view of everything Boxarr has ever charted: how many weeks it stayed in the top 10, its best weekend, the weeks it appeared in, plus filters for downloaded, missing, not in Radarr and ignored titles.
- Setup, config and API — Web setup wizard (Radarr URL, API key, root folder, quality profiles, minimum availability, optional auto-tagging of added movies), YAML or environment-variable configuration, light/dark themes, a responsive interface, a URL-base option for running behind nginx, Traefik or Caddy, and a REST API for automation.
Why Use Boxarr?
Request-based tools such as Seerr wait for somebody to ask for a film, and Radarr lists depend on a curator keeping them up to date. Boxarr is neither: it reads the money, which is a hard measure of mainstream appeal, and refreshes itself every week without anyone updating anything. That makes it a complement to a request system rather than a replacement — Seerr for the specific things your household wants, Boxarr so the obvious crowd-pleasers are already in the library when someone thinks to look for them. It also keeps a historical record, so a film that charted months ago is still one click away.
Use Cases
- Keeping a family media server stocked with the mainstream releases people ask about, without searching for each one by hand.
- Building a curated archive of films that were culturally significant at release, week by week, with the grosses recorded next to them.
- Automating only a slice of the chart — for example the top five films above a minimum weekend gross, in English, released this year.
- Sleeping better about quality drift: new additions use your default profile, and anything you already own can be upgraded to your Ultra-HD profile in one click.
Platform
Self-hosted web application — Docker image ghcr.io/iongpt/boxarr (port 8888, persistent /config volume, optional TZ) or a Python 3.10+ installation. Runs alongside Radarr v3.0+, needs network access to Box Office Mojo, and is reached from any browser.

Related Tools
Boxarr fits the same shelf as Configarr, which keeps quality profiles and custom formats in sync across your Sonarr and Radarr instances, and Bazarr, which fetches the subtitles for whatever lands in them. Cleanuparr handles the other end of the pipeline, pruning stuck and unwanted downloads. Radarr itself is at radarr.video.
