Documenso is an open-source, self-hostable digital document signing platform — a modern alternative to DocuSign. It lets individuals, teams and organisations send, sign and manage PDF documents with legally valid electronic signatures, backed by proper audit trails and PKI-based cryptography, all without routing your agreements through a proprietary cloud. The project is built on modern TypeScript/Next.js and Postgres.
Key Features
Open e-signature workflow — upload a document, drop signature, initials, date, checkbox and text fields, and send it for signing in minutes.
Self-hosted and sovereign — run it on your own server with Docker to keep agreements and signer data fully under your control.
PAdES standard signatures — produce PDF signatures that comply with the European PAdES electronic-signature standard.
Full audit trail — every view, field edit and signature is tracked for accountability and legal defensibility.
Email notifications and reminders — automated signing invitations and follow-ups keep the process moving.
Multi-document management — organise templates, envelopes and teams in a clean dashboard.
Open licensing — AGPL-3.0 with an active community and 15k+ GitHub stars.
