LXQt
Overview
LXQt is the lightweight Qt desktop environment, formed from the merger of LXDE-Qt and Razor-qt projects. It combines the speed and low resource usage of LXDE with the modern, well-supported Qt toolkit. LXQt is modular, fast, and energy-efficient, making it an excellent choice for older hardware, netbooks, and users who want a full desktop without the bloat.
Key Features
- Lightweight & Fast: Extremely low memory and CPU usage — ideal for older hardware, low-spec machines, and resource-constrained environments.
- Modern Qt Toolkit: Built with Qt6 (and Qt5 compatibility), providing a modern, consistent, and performant user interface with excellent HiDPI support.
- Modular Design: Every component is optional — install only what you need. The default includes PCManFM-Qt file manager, QTerminal, and a panel with app menu.
- Wayland Support: Full Wayland session support since version 2.3.0, alongside traditional X11 operation.
