Bazarr
Bazarr is a companion application to Sonarr and Radarr that manages and downloads subtitles for your media library. You define your language preferences per TV show or per movie, and Bazarr automatically searches providers, downloads matching subtitles and names them correctly for your media player. It does not scan your disk — it works from the series and films already indexed by Sonarr and Radarr — and the latest release is v1.6.2.
Key Features
- Works with Sonarr and Radarr — Reads the shows, seasons, episodes and films those apps index, so new additions are picked up automatically without scanning your disk.
- Per-show and per-movie language profiles — Set separate subtitle language preferences for each series or film, not just one global rule.
- Support for 184 subtitle languages — Including forced/foreign subtitles, with providers.
- Automatic missing-subtitle detection — Scans your existing library for internal and external subtitles and downloads the ones that are missing.
- Smart upgrades — Upgrades a previously downloaded subtitle when a better-quality match is found.
- Manual search and upload — Find and download a specific subtitle on demand, or upload your own.
- History and blacklist — Keeps a log of what was downloaded, from where and when, and lets you blacklist bad providers or files.
- Sonarr-style web interface — A clean, familiar UI over a self-hosted service you reach from any browser.
Why Use Bazarr?
Keeping a media library subtitled in the right languages is a chore when done by hand. Bazarr runs as a background service next to Sonarr/Radarr, so every new episode or film you add gets the subtitles you want without you searching provider sites one by one. Set it up once — choose your languages, enable automatic and upgrade search — and it quietly keeps the library filled, with a history log if you ever want to see what happened.
Use Cases
- Automatic subtitle downloads for a Jellyfin, Plex or Emby library managed by Sonarr/Radarr.
- Consistent subtitle languages across a household where family members watch in different languages.
- Forced/foreign subtitles for foreign-language films or anime that already contain translated audio.
- Hearing-impaired (HI) subtitles for viewers who rely on captions.
