Planka is a self-hosted Kanban board for teams that want to visualize and organize work on a familiar drag-and-drop board. Built with React and Redux and shipped primarily as a Docker container, it offers real-time collaboration, markdown card descriptions, and granular notifications without sending your project data to a third party. Note that Planka is distributed under a fair-code / Fair Use License: the source code is available and the community edition is free to self-host, but a paid Pro Edition adds advanced features and support — so it is not fully OSI open source.
Planka hits the sweet spot between a simple to-do board and a heavyweight project suite. Real-time collaboration and markdown make it pleasant for day-to-day team use, while self-hosting keeps you in control of your data. If you want the polish of a hosted tool without the SaaS lock-in, Planka is a strong candidate — just keep its fair-code license in mind when planning on paid features.
