Part-DB
Part-DB is an open-source inventory management system built specifically for electronic components. Installed on a web server and accessed from any browser, it lets you track parts, store locations, suppliers and prices, generate barcodes and labels, and even pull component data automatically from distributors like Digikey, Farnell and LCSC.
Key Features
- Parts inventory — Assign each part a category, footprint, manufacturer, multiple store locations and price information, and group parts with tags
- Barcodes & labels — Generate labels for parts and locations and scan barcodes via a webcam using the built-in scanner
- Supplier data import — Automatically fetch part info, datasheets and prices from Octopart, Digikey, Farnell, LCSC and TME
- KiCad integration — Use Part-DB as the central datasource for KiCad and see available parts directly inside the EDA tool
- Project & BOM management — Create projects, assign parts to a bill of materials, and see how many builds your stock supports
- Fine-grained permissions — User groups with detailed rights, two-factor authentication, and optional SAML/SSO via Keycloak or LDAP
- Event log — Track every change and revert parts to older versions
- Multi-backend — MySQL, SQLite and PostgreSQL, with a responsive mobile-friendly interface
Why Use Part-DB?
Part-DB is purpose-built for makers, electronics hobbyists and small teams who need to keep a shared parts library under control. Its parametric search, distributor integration and KiCad plugin make it far more powerful than a spreadsheet for real component inventories.
Use Cases
- Makerspaces and hackerspaces managing a shared component library
- Electronics hobbyists tracking resistor, capacitor and IC stock at home
- Small companies and universities managing component inventory with controlled access
- KiCad users who want live component availability in their schematics
