Overview

Linux Mint is a community-developed Linux distribution based on Ubuntu, first released in 2006. It is designed with ease of use and out-of-the-box functionality as its core philosophy, making it one of the most popular choices for desktop users transitioning from other operating systems. The default Cinnamon desktop environment is developed in-house by the Linux Mint team, with MATE and Xfce editions also available.
