Ampache

Ampache

Ampache is a web-based audio and video streaming application and file manager, letting you access your music and videos from anywhere on almost any internet-enabled device. Free and open source since 2001, it streams to your preferred player and exposes its library through Subsonic, DAAP, UPnP and more.

Key Features

  • HTML5 web player — Listen directly in the browser or pop the player out
  • Subsonic backend — Works with any Subsonic-compatible client
  • DAAP and UPnP backends — Library appears to iTunes and DLNA devices
  • Localplay — Control MPD, VLC, XBMC and HTTP queues from Ampache
  • Transcoding — Convert on the fly with ffmpeg when a player lacks a codec, with configurable downsampling
  • Remote catalogs — Import from an existing Subsonic instance, SoundCloud or another Ampache server
  • Metadata and art — Pulls metadata from MusicBrainz and album art from multiple sources
  • Social and stats — Per-user play statistics, ratings, favourites and democratic communal playback

Why Use Ampache?

Ampache is a mature, feature-complete server that speaks many protocols rather than locking you into one app. If you already use Plex or Subsonic, Ampache delivers the same features — users, album art, lyrics, podcast streaming — free, and plays nicely with the client you already love.

Use Cases

  • Streaming a large organised music and video collection to multiple devices
  • Integrating a Subsonic or UPnP library into one unified server
  • Running a private music server with per-user accounts and statistics
