LessPass
Overview
LessPass is a different kind of password manager: rather than storing your passwords anywhere, it is a stateless generator. It takes your master password, the site name and your username, runs them through a deterministic algorithm, and always produces the same unique password for that site. Because nothing is ever saved — no database, no cloud sync — there is no vault to steal, lose or back up. It works in the browser, on Android and even from a plain command line.
Key Features
- Stateless by design — no password database and no server holding your secrets, so there is no single point of failure to hack.
- Deterministic generation — the same master password, site and login always yield the same password, on any device.
- Works fully offline — everything is derived locally, so you can generate a login with no internet connection and no account.
- Unique per site — the site address acts as extra input, so every website gets its own password automatically.
- Multi-platform — web app, browser extensions for Firefox and Chrome, Android app and an npm CLI.
- Open source — the full generator is licensed under the GPL-3.0 and auditable.
Why Use It
LessPass is perfect for people who want to be able to reach any password from any machine without carrying a vault around. There is nothing to sync and nothing to restore — if you know your master password, you have every password you ever created.
Use Cases
- Logging in on a public or borrowed machine without installing anything
- Privacy-conscious users who avoid cloud password storage entirely
- A lightweight backup of your memory for important accounts
